Mendrilla's Creation: The Little Conch
Mandali Mendrilla, an internationally distinguished Croatian fashion designer based in USA, has dedicated a line of designer shirts from her latest atelier collection to acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed.
Rajan Zed is the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism. As a faith which philosophies the positive value of practicing good deeds and sharing goodness in the world, Hinduism has become synonymous with peace, understanding and sharing.
Rajan Zed is famous for representing understanding and cultural diversity in the sittings of American Congress; applying the peaceful practices of Hinduism to his actions in the American senate.
Mendrilla spoke in Los Angeles today about the collection she has designed: “This collection is a symbiosis of the traditional American T-shirt and the historical Indian kurta and combining them was an attempt to unite the spirits of two continents.”
Influenced by the iconic spirit of peace, Mahatma Gandhi, Mendrilla has used khadi cloth to compose these shirts. The designs on the shirts were inspired by the American Pop Art and the Orissan Patachitra- a school of folk painting from India.
The 32 year old Mendrilla has already exhibited her work in Italy, Croatia, USA, and India and in 2009, she plans to take her shows to Japan and United Kingdom. The goal of her work is to bond with the wearers and inspire happiness and love. Mendrilla thinks humans can use clothes to help communicate, explore, enhance and discover their inner-selves rather than consider dressing as an external act of duty.
With peaceful deities stitched into every garment, the Mendrilla’s Zed collection would be worn perfectly in place of a kaftan on a spa holiday or nature retreat.
